How does reinforcement work, exactly?
I saw a Mobile Depot floating in a belt where the career guy sent me to mine, and it had Russian writing so I decided to try to kill it. I went back to the space station, put guns on instead of miners, and went out to try my luck.
It took FOREVER. And then it didn't explode. I was close to killing the shields when it went invulnerable. A guy in local said that it was in reinforcement and I would have to wait until the timer ran out.
Will anyone else be able to kill it between now and then? What happens when it comes out of reinforced? Will it be open for anyone to kill it then, or just me, and how long does it stay vulnerable?
Thanks ahead of time. I am a handful of days into my trial and am having a good time, even though my first attempt at space piracy was a bust!

So if the owner comes back they can negate all that time I spent trying to kill it?
How would someone ever get rid of one of these things? I can't read Russian so I am not sure what it says, but they are spammed all over in the belts that I mine in. I am guessing it is an ad or something.

Thank you.
I only had one ship, the one they give you to start. I was doing the industrial agent guy's missions first so I have that and a Venture mining ship so far and that isn't for fighting, is it? I bought the best guns and ammo I could afford (I think) for that starting ship.
5,000 is a lot by 6-15s!

Hahaha It was likely a recruitment mtu, if it was in a newbie system then I'd say it was with a fair bit of certainty. Btw "Russian" written characters are called Cyrillic
Thank you. Learn something new every day!
It was a newbie system, you are right, in Minmatar space with the career agents.
I guess I should try to kill something else next, eh? Maybe a new thread for that. |

Thanks for the tips. I did quit the industrial agent, so I will start the other paths tonight.
So much to learn. So little time. |

Mobile Depots have a 2 day reinforcement timer, Mobile Tractor Units do not, so if you come across one of those, you will be able to blow it up immediately. They have more EHP (50k-ish) than depots, but those are the two most widely used mobile structures you will see right now.
Thank you!
As I said up-thread, I had a hell of a time taking the shields (most of them, anyway) off of a depot. With 10x the HP I am guessing I'd run out of ammo about the same time I ran out of patience.
It was pretty scary as it was, going suspect in a system with 50+ people, in an asteroid field where there were three people mining and a guy in a slasher. I just KNEW at any moment I was going to die. Loved that rush.
Ha ha.
I will try the career missions that Ralph mentioned and see if I can't get a ship with a little better guns and damage before I try a tractor unit!
In the meantime, I will try to keep shooting things. I was tempted to try to gank a venture in my starter ship yesterday, but after the miserable damage I saw on the depot thing, I thought against it.

Lessons learned during today's play:
*Like the Terminus signs in The Walking Dead, mobile depot spam will not lead you to the promise land.
*NPC convoy ships literally carry garbage. And milk. On the same ship. If you are lucky you will find spirits that can be sold for pitiful cash.
*It takes a LOT of bullets to kill an NPC hauler ship. So many that I ran out when it was almost dead.
*Asking a local to bring you ammo and dump it in space actually works. He tried to be tricksy and didn't abandon the ammo at first, but I am a noob, not a rube. Ha ha!
*It is not worth spending all of your ISK on ammo to blow up NPC Convoys unless you have a ship that can haul away the proceeds. Doh.
Ok.. back to the career guys I guess! |

Look at how paranoid a few years around you people has made me. no need, i sent him a little (which he should spend on skill books, hint hint)
Thank you, publically, for that. I didn't know if you'd say anything here and didn't want to be the one to mention it.
As we discussed.. for all of the future employer lookey-loo's who see the donation on my record.. this is where/why/when!

As for you, Sonya, I am not looking for donations, just tips/tricks. I may be new, but I am equally paranoid about having strangers names in my financial history if it will scare away any future work.

Lessons learned the last two days:
*Patience is not my strong suit, but I am learning. As I can't fit much in the way of armor, guns, or the other things referenced in the rifter video, I wait.
*Waiting doesn't have to entail sitting in station.
*If you make a Russian angry enough, they will try to kill you and are blown up by concord.
*You really have to be on the ball to kill someone in their pod after their ship blows up. Criminal status turns passers-by into gunslingers. I am looking at you, Seth Tonic.
*I now have a killright. I relish using it. A week in and I feel like I am developing an arch-nemesis relationship with the angry russian. So fun.

I chose zkillboard.com. Is that one the preferred one to use?
Oh, and I have my first death up already. Go me.
I had found a glacial belt, when I came upon it I was in suspect status from earlier shenanigans, taking ore from a container that wasn't mine and looting wrecks and stuff.
There was a retriever ship there mining, and it had drones out and locked me up. This may or may not have been after I swooped around in some, locked up the drones, and generally tried to get him angry. Alas, he was French, and not Russian, so he wouldn't actually shoot.
Then came a german. I was not ready for that. Being in suspect status I knew I was fair game, but I guess I didnt understand cloaking very well because out of nowhere a guy in a Hound locked me up, scrambled me, and unleashed torpedos.
Of course, the Frenchman started to shoot at that point.
I was able to get out of their in my capsule to live another day. Unfortunately I didnt get a kill right on the german. Is that because I was in suspect status?

Well it certainly did enough against a clueless noob in his first fight.
I had turned on my armor repairer, but I dont think I did so soon enough. I was so excited that I was shot at, thinking it was the retriever, then when I realized there was another ship there I didn't have long enough to figure out what was going on, unlock the retriever and drone, and lock the hound up or anything.
When I realized I was dying I tried to warp away and it was telling me something was preventing it. I assumed it was the hound.
I didnt have the skill trained for the warpdrive when I left the station earlier. I had planned to have one there. I will go with an afterburner instead, it may actually fit better. Thanks for the advice with the rig selection.
I'd watched a youtube video and built the ship exactly how they did. I just didnt fly it exactly how he did. Ha ha.
Now as I am thinking about it, I wonder if I actually agressed the retriever on accident when the hound started shooting at me. When I went back later concord was in the belt. It was like 25 minutes later, but they werent there earlier. If they showed up and disrupted me for aggressing (web and scrambled) the retriever at the same time as the hound was shooting at me, would they be on the killmail?
I will definitely be more prepared next time! Thank you. |

Vimsy Vortis wrote:There's no CONCORD on your loss mail. It was all hound. So long as your safety is not set red you won't be able to do anything that causes a CONCORD response.
Ice belts very often have CONCORD ships in them because the barges there attract suicide gankers, which is probably what the houn was in the belt for (gankers attract anti-gankers who basically just shoot the ganker to get free killmails).
That makes sense. Looking at the German's zkill stuff it looks like he did just kill a ganker the other day, too.
Well crap. It feels good to have my first death out of the way, but I sure could use a kill.
On to the next! |

Fewer lessons today as my play time was brief. I spent most of it trying my best to adjust my overview, move the window around, adjust the camera, etc.
I think I have a plan that may be delayed over the weekend, but in place next week. We will see. It will likely end in yet another death for me, or revenge.
Steadily training the skills recommended by the countless threads here, videos, and blog posts. Thank you all for your help. I think my goal will be to fly frigates and destroyers, minmatar and gallente, and try to do them very well before moving on to anything else. It seems like a long (and expensive) road.

So if you bounty someone, when it pays out yout get notified? It takes the money up front though, right?
I've only had one guy ask about the bounty so far, Seth Tonic, the guy that stole my pod kill. When I was telling him that he stole my first kill and that meant we had to go kill something together he said "First kill? Wait, you have a 20m bounty, what did you do?"
Ha ha. I told him I just make friends easily. |

Revenge has been had against the Russian.
He was only in a Venture, but he was carrying a Mobile Depot and had a decent load of ore, so I will happily take the kill.
I got his pod, too. I will keep that frozen corpse forever.
Question, however: It seems killing him, and attacking his pod the other day (without getting the kill myself) both took a hit to my standings with my career agents, and now I am at like -4 or something.
Any way of fixing that, or am I doomed to piracy now? |
